If you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’ve joined the world of small business owners. First of all, welcome to the daily grind. It’s gonna be tough and I hope you’re ready. Luckily for you, there’s tons of online advice out there on how to make money with your small business. Trust me, it’s easier than you think. But many beginners tend to make mistakes that sometimes cost them their future and today I’ll show you how you can avoid them.
5 crucial mistakes almost every small business owner makes
Working in solitude
I get it, sometimes it’s fun. But one of the key problems of being an entrepreneur is being alone – it’s what breaks a lot of young business people who realize how lonely this job can be after your initial honeymoon period. Make sure you don’t work in solitude – schedule social time, get a mentor, get an accountability buddy, stay in touch with your family,.. Don’t make the mistake of isolating yourself – you will go insane.
Afraid of being disruptive
Not having confidence is a terrible thing for a normal human being, but in the business world, this can sometimes cost you your job. You have to have the confidence to think disruptive – to see things outside of the box and not being afraid to try them out. You CAN be humble and at the same time kickass at your business – it doesn’t mean that you’re not confident in what you do. Be disruptive and believe in your company.
Not setting milestones
Having the end goal in sight is good – but sometimes we don’t realize the journey that is required to get to that goal. Let me tell you – it’s frickin’ hard and sometimes you have to give yourself a pat on the back for surviving this far. Set milestones and have an overview of what you’ve been doing over the past few months – it’ll motivate you or help you realize where you need to change your ways. Always check how you’re doing!
Not investing in marketing
Many small business owners tend to be so focused on the financial aspect of their company they completely forget about marketing. No matter your niche, marketing is the key to any business. Without marketing, there won’t be any customers. So invest in those social media gurus, virtual assistants and anyone that can help you optimize your site to its fullest potential. Don’t forget – content is king.
Focusing on mistakes
Haha, got you here. But it’s true – by focusing on mistakes, you are letting your mind get overflown with negativity. How are you going to get up if all you do is beating yourself down? Sure, some mistakes were made this year, but hey, I bet there are at least 10 things you did right. Focus on those, learn from the mistakes and keep going. It’s an ongoing hustle – just don’t let go of it.
So here you have it. Let’s try to avoid making these mistakes in 2017 and I can guarantee your business will look a million times better – and not only that. YOU’LL feel a million times better too!
