Being an entrepreneur is hard and many people struggle with the amount of work they find themselves in. Owning a small business is not easy and in order to succeed, you have to know how to take care of your health.
Here are some wellness lifehacks for anyone owning a small business
1. Get up early and schedule ‘me’ time
This requires a lot of getting used to, but having 2-3 hours to yourself before you start your working day can bring a significant difference to your life. The only person you’ll have to beat is yourself – no other competition will be up and working this early in the morning. Just do it.
2. Go to bed early
The same as the above – this is hard but it goes hand in hand with the first point. Quality sleep is equally important as is getting up early – make sure you get 6-8 hours of sleep and go to bed early. Bonus points if you’re able to switch off all electronics one hour before heading to bed.
Have you not jumped on board the meditation train yet? Well, you definitely should because it works. The good part is that you only need 10 minutes per day, but I like to meditate in the morning and evening. Sometimes we forget to feel present because we’re so focused on our to-do lists and clients. Focusing on your breathing for a few minutes can go a long way.
Owning a small business can get lonely, especially in the first few months. Many people fall in the wake up – work – sleep – repeat cycle (some even cancel out the sleep part), but socializing is the ultimate thing that will help you remain sane. Make sure you schedule some time for your family and have a weekly meetup with your friends – try not to talk about work or use this time to celebrate sucess or share some worries.
5. Pursue a hobby outside of your job
Hobbies are underrated – sometimes your mind just needs to take a break from the same topic and get creative with something else. It’ll give you a chance to let your brain process information you receive at work. If nothing else, learn how to play a guitar – it can be incredibly calming, especially for entrepreneurs suffering with anxiety.
6. Move your body
Make sure you exercise during your morning ‘me’ time. It’ll clear your mind and wake up your body – not to mention it’s incredibly healthy. It doesn’t matter what you do – either 30 minutes of yoga, 1 hour at the gym, go for a morning run, stretch, do pushups, home workouts,… options are endless. Just make sure you move!
7. Never neglect your hygiene
You’d be surprised how clearer your mind will be after you clean your apartment, take a long hot bath with some essential oils, moisturize and put on a perfume or cologne. Seriously – never neglect your hygiene. Some even recommend taking cold morning showers – studies have shown this wakes up your brain faster and gets you out of your comfort zone first thing in the morning, creating a positive psychological effect for the rest of the day.
